Striped marlin are large, oceanic fish with long, round bills, a tall dorsal fin and live throughout tropical and sub-tropical waters of the Pacific and Indian Oceans.
They have rows of blue colored stripes made up of smaller round dots or narrow bands made to help them blend in with the open waters.
Spawning occurs in the central Pacific and off central Mexico. Juvenile fish move east toward the coast of Mexico, where they are found in high abundance around the tip of the Baja Peninsula.
A striped marlin’s diet includes mackerel, sardine, anchovy, and squid. Only large pelagic sharks or toothed whales have been found to feed on adult marlin.
